Free Training for 21st Century Careers!

Enabling workers to acquire the skills necessary to succeed in today’s global economy is critical to enhancing the quality of life in Michigan. To address this need, Governor Jennifer Granholm announced the No Worker Left Behind (NWLB) initiative, a free tuition program designed to train Michigan residents for the high-demand careers of the 21st century.

No Worker Left Behind can provide up to $5,000 a year for tuition payments and other academic expenses for a maximum of two years. Students may pursue the following certificate or degree types:

  • Occupational certificate
  • Associate’s degree
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree

The certificate or degree must be earned in two years or less and lead to a job in a high-demand occupation, an emerging industry, or an entrepreneurial endeavor.

For general information, including a frequently asked question list regarding the No Worker Left Behind initiative, visit www.michigan.gov/nwlb.

An NWLB applicant must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Not have graduated from high school in the last two years.
  • Not currently be a full-time college student, if under the age of 24.
